Laurie’s interest in fitness was presented to her at a young age, mostly due to the fact that she has an overactive imagination and lived in a tiny town in Wyoming with nothing better to do! Her high school athleticism transitioned into studying Physical Education and Health at Montana State University where she participated in collegiate intramurals and taping ankles in the training department. To stay active into adulthood she began teaching group exercise classes and running half marathons until birthing two babies took its toll! Her personal fitness goals needed to change to prevent further injury so she began to lift weights more consistently and transformed her body enough to brave the stage as a natural athlete. At age forty-four she competed in her first Figure Competition, bringing home the overall champion sword! She went on to compete in six more regional shows and finished her bodybuilding career at a National NPC show in Chicago. Her training and nutrition knowledge led her to coach numerous competitors to the stage and peeked her interest further in the nutrition field. Her philosophy about nutrition is that food should be celebrated and enjoyed. With the proper knowledge and guidance, anyone can achieve their performance and aesthetic goals while celebrating and enjoying food!
Laurie began her career a long time ago in the fitness industry as a PE teacher in Bozeman, MT teaching high school freshman. Upon her husband’s commission into the Air Force, she became a stay-at-home mom for several years until finally settling in Boise and beginning her second career as an elementary school substitute teacher. Her passion for teaching spilled over into her latest career of Personal Training. She has been a personal trainer since 2010, helping people of all ages and skill levels to realize their true potential to become the best versions of themselves. She believes in developing a lifestyle that allows people to balance their professional, spiritual, and personal needs while never losing sight that anything is possible!
“The only limitation one has is the unwillingness to recognize that they have no limitations.” – Laurie Smith
