Laurie’s interest in fitness was presented to her at a young age, mostly due to the fact that she has an overactive imagination and lived in a tiny town in Wyoming with nothing better to do! Her high school athleticism transitioned into studying Physical Education and Health at Montana State University where she participated in collegiate intramurals, was a student assistant coach for the volleyball team and taped ankles in the training department. She was a high school PE teacher, a stay at home mom, a substitute teacher and then finally settled into personal training and nutrition counseling. Understanding the importance of accountability and proper form while also wanting to improve her own functional movement and performance, she hired Jay Taylor, one of the current co-founders at Jack City, as her personal trainer when they worked together as trainers at a local gym in Boise. She transformed her body enough to brave the stage as a natural athlete, competing in seven figure competitions. Her training and nutrition knowledge led her to coach numerous competitors to the stage and piqued her interest further in the nutrition field. Her philosophy about nutrition is that food should be celebrated and enjoyed. With the proper knowledge and guidance, anyone can achieve their performance and aesthetic goals while celebrating and enjoying food!
Laurie’s focus at Jack City is to provide nutrition consultations for clients, helping them develop healthy eating habits for life as well as providing detailed performance nutrition for athletes. Her philosophy is to help people understand how important a healthy diet is to maintaining a happy, healthy life, and that it’s really not that complicated!
“The only limitation one has is the unwillingness to recognize that they have no limitations.” – Laurie Smith
